Tottenham Hotspur are not messing around in the summer transfer window. Compared to other clubs, it seems that the priority is clear at Tottenham; they would prefer to get their signings done early, to allow time for a full pre-season and time for the individuals to settle into their new surroundings.

Famously, at the end of last season, Ange Postecoglou expressed his discontent with the current state of Tottenham and questioned the foundations of the club. This was not a nice message for Tottenham fans to hear, but it was a necessary one. After all, the club has needed a non-pleaser manager to come in and steer the club back in the right direction.

Tottenham eye Newcastle transfer hijack amid Ange Postecoglou obsession

According to a report from TEAMTALK, Tottenham would like to strike a deal to sign Jonathan David, the Canadian striker who is strongly linked with a move to Newcastle United. The £25m price tag which could be enough for Spurs to sign David would allow room in the budget for Ange Postecoglou to strengthen in other areas of the pitch too.

Even if Tottenham were not on the hunt for a new striker in the summer transfer window, to sign a proven goal-scorer for just £25m is an opportunity which would be impossible for Spurs to pass up. Indeed, the fact that Tottenham ARE on the hunt for a striker only serves as a nice bonus.

In truth, Tottenham are overdue a goal-scoring centre forward. They have been in need of a signing of this nature since Harry Kane left to join Bayern Munich in 2023. Luckily for Tottenham fans, it is a position which Ange Postecoglou would like to strengthen in, with Football Insider even claiming the Aussie boss is "obsessed" with signing a new striker this summer.

Newcastle United have the finances to make a deal like this happen. However, gone are the days where transfer budgets can be judged on club wealth. In many ways, the Profit and Sustainability guidelines could lean in favour of Tottenham more than Newcastle, thus giving Ange Postecoglou the mental edge.

Where do you think Jonathan David will play next season?
