According to Fox Sports in Mexico, Spurs are interested in Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

They add that Spurs are not alone in their interest in Gimenez, with clubs from Spain, Italy, Germany, and England interested in the Mexican international - Atletico Madrid, Juventus, RB Leipzig, and AC Milan are some of the names mentioned.

Should the report be correct, Gimenez's representatives are due to travel to Europe in the next few days to hold talks with the clubs interested in their client.

Gimenez scored 23 goals in 30 league games last season, although he scored 2 goals after the 10th March, both in the same game.

He followed up his disappointing end-of-season form with a poor Copa America tournament over the summer, blanking in all 3 games as Mexico fell to a disappointing group-stage exit on goal difference. Per SofaScore, the striker missed 4 big chances across the 3 games, including 2 in the draw to Ecuador, where Mexico would have gone through with a win.

Nevertheless, at just 23, Gimenez has time on his side and can still develop further. His career development so far has been linear and that would be the hope if he was to sign for Spurs. With Ange Postecogolu coaching, he could be fine-tuned into a player capable enough of being Spurs' first-choice striker.

As a result of the Netherlands being an English-speaking country, a benefit is, that unlike a lot of Latin Americans, Gimenez already knows the language and could perhaps settle better than some. He will also be in a dressing room with Spanish speakers like Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur, who would no doubt help him settle into life in England.

Spurs could probably do better than Santiago Gimenez, but beggars can't be choosers and the longer the wait for a striker goes on, the more you would start to welcome a 23-year old with 38 league goals over the last two seasons, regardless of the league quality. The striker also scored against City rivals Lazio and Roma in both the Champions and Europa League last season, so may help quash concerns over the standard of opponents.
