According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have entered negotiations for Lille striker Jonathan David.

Lille's president admitted back in June that both David and Lenny Yoro could leave the club this summer, and Yoro has already left for Manchester United.

Lille informed David that this promise will be kept should the French club fetch a fee in the region of £20 million, regardless of the buyer.

One would have to assume that the reason for this low price is because David only has one year remaining on his current Lille contract. Presumably, it doesn't look like he is going to sign a new deal, so the club wants to cash out instead of risk losing him for free in the summer of 2025.

The Canadian striker scored 19 goals in 34 Ligue 1 appearances last season, scoring at a rate of a goal every 139 minutes, as he helped Lille to secure a top-four finish.

He scored 24 goals in the 22/23 Ligue 1 season, and in four seasons in Northern France, the striker's lowest return has been 13 goals, back in his debut season at the club.

David scored 2 goals at the Copa America over the summer, as Canada secured a final four place in their debut tournament. These goals took his tally to an impressive 28 goals in 54 international appearances.

David has been linked with several clubs over the summer, and with his aforementioned contract situation, this feels like the time that the Brooklyn-born striker departs Lille, after plenty of speculation over the last 12 months.

The 24-year-old striker is a very fast and direct forward, who from that point of view is suited to Ange Postecoglu's style of play. But he can sometimes leave questions to be desired when it comes to his overall game, such as link-up play. He has been criticized in the past for being a bit rigid and clunky.

There is no doubt, however, that he is a good player and that his price in today's game is extremely reasonable.
