Tottenham defender Cristian Romero impresses for Argentina
By Tom Vinall
Tottenham’s central defender Cristian Romero has been subject to several plaudits in Argentina for his performance vs Ecuador on Sunday evening
Romero and his Argentine counterparts kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory against their aforementioned fellow South Americans in Chicago.
Romero showed his supreme ball-playing abilities — he had 100 touches, completed 88/93 passes, 2/3 accurate long balls, and created one chance.
That one chance was a sublime assist to tee up the legendary Angel Di Maria for the game’s only goal. Receiving the ball on the edge of the box, Romero turned like a 5’6 attacking midfielder and played a perfectly weighted through ball to Di Maria to slot home.
Romero being on the edge of the box in the first place may be the most Romero thing of all time, giving the same vibes as when he went on a one-man-pressing mission against Arsenal that led to his goal.
It shows that he is a nutcase but also how he is an incredibly talented and gifted footballer. The Spurs defender is one of the best in the world when it comes to ball playing.

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero impresses for Argentina
Argentina’s final squad has not yet been announced, with the Copa America not starting until a week after the European Championships, but there is no doubt that ‘Cuti’ will be one of the first names to be listed.
His Argentina side actually kicked off this year’s Copa America against Canada next Thursday night (or Friday morning, depending on your timezone), despite the tournament being hosted in the United States.
They will then play against Chile and finally Peru as they compete in Group A.
Romero’s Argentina will be looking to defend their title, having won the tournament in 2021, where Romero came back from injury and put in an impressive display and clean sheet against Brazil in the final.
It would be three major tournaments won in a row, matching Spain’s achievements from 2008-2012.
With Richarlison’s injury and Emerson’s poor season, Romero will be the Spurs' only representative at this year's tournament.
Good luck Cuti, and come back fully fit.
