Tottenham could make summer approach for £51m defender

Spurs have been quick to business in the January transfer window and could bring in another player or two before it closes, however, they are already considering options for this summer.

Spurs were linked with a move for Nice's Jean-Clair Todibo earlier this month, however, 90min reports that "there are no plans to resurrect their interest this window."

Per the outlet's report, despite the deal dropping off, Tottenham could reinvigorate their pursuit of Todibo this summer. The one pitfall of such an approach, though, might be the extra time it will give other clubs to pursue the highly-rated Frenchman.

Tottenham were able to bring in some brilliant defensive depth this window with the addition of Genoa's Radu Dragusin, who came on in the 85th minute in Spurs' 2-2 draw with United nearly two weeks ago. With Micky van de Ven back to full health, it's unlikely he'll get the start as the team face Manchester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup today.

Nevertheless, the need for further reinforcements remains. This season's injury crisis has only reminded fans of the need for incredible depth in the world's toughest division of football. Some have taken to social media, specifying that the club must sign both a center-back and full-back in order to round out the bench.

Todibo could be an excellent option for one of those defensive needs. With 118 senior appearances for Nice now, at the age of 24-years-old, he'll be looking to make his big move to a new club.

With interest from many other teams including Chelsea, who have reportedly been in talks with the player's agents, and waning pursuits from other clubs like Juventus who have brought in alternative faces before the close of the transfer window, there's no telling whether or not Todibo will be available come this summer.

Spurs will be looking to keep their options open, however, expect them to continue monitoring the player's availability through the end of the season.
