Pre-season has been kind to Tottenham Hotspur so far. It has built on the pre-existing excitement surrounding the club currently, with Ange Postecoglou proving to be the man for the long-term future of the club. He has handed invaluable opportunities to some younger players to prove themselves, with one youngster above all else making the most of those opportunities.

That player is Mikey Moore, the 16-year-old who made two Premier League appearances for Tottenham Hotspur towards the end of last season. In pre-season, Moore has provided a goal and an assist, both of which occurring when he came off the bench. In the 5-1 thumping of Hearts, Moore was on the score-sheet and he also provided a nice assist against QPR more recently.

According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are now close to striking a deal to keep Mikey Moore at the club. The source claims that Spurs are working hard behind the scenes to pen a first professional contract for Mikey Moore, which he will be able to sign when he turns 17 next month.

Given how well his pre-season has gone, it seems like a no-brainer for Tottenham to sign Mikey Moore on a professional contract. After coming through the youth academy, he could become the next success story at Tottenham and nothing is stopping him from staking a claim in the starting lineup going forward.

It is important that Tottenham are proactive and efficient in their negotiations. As his boyhood club, they have a huge pull factor over other clubs but when the likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund Man City and Man United are also eyeing him up, Tottenham could fall further down his estimations.

Mikey Moore is a versatile youngster who is capable of playing as a left-winger, centre forward or central midfielder. Going forward, he would be best to specialise in one position but this will be part of his development plan, should he sign a longer-term deal under Ange Postecoglou.

Long story short, it is understandable why Tottenham would like to tie down Mikey Moore to a professional contract. However, they must be quick to deter European interest.

Do you think Mikey Moore should commit his future to Tottenham Hotspur?
