Spurs looking to invest in 17-year-old Pirlo protege, reports

With the incomings of Lucas Bergvall and Luka Vuskovic over the next few years, it's fair to say that Spurs are building out a substantial base of youth talent from which to build their future squads.

Those two, alongside some of the highly-rated youth academy prospects like Mikey Moore and Jamie Donley, could be Spurs' future.

However, it doesn't seem like the club are even close to finishing their youth recruitment project, as recent reports have revealed that the North London side are looking to acquire the talents of 17-year-old Serie B center-back Giovanni Leoni.

Leoni, who has been playing under the watchful eye of Italian footballing legend Andrea Pirlo, has really begun to show his form, working his way into 12 senior league appearances this past campaign, and even notching a goal for himself in the process (Transfermarkt).

The report comes from Italian outlet TuttoSport, who have stated that Tottenham made an "enquiry" for the player (via TBR Football).

Fabrizio Romano, the widely acclaimed Italian transfer guru, has also confirmed that Spurs are in the hunt for the player's signature.

At the small fee of €4m, Leoni could be a bargain buy, especially considering the fact that he'll get to stay at Sampdoria for a year on loan and continue to develop with the Italian side, per Romano's report.

That would leave Spurs with enough time to watch the player grow further and prepare for what many consider to be the most intensive, if not difficult, professional football leagues in the world.

Of course, Leoni may not come across as the most exciting transfer prospect as the club try to sort out their big striker purchase that many have been anticipating since the exit of Harry Kane, the club's all-time leading goal scorer, last summer.

One thing's for sure: it's already shaping up to be a busy summer of transfer business for the Spurs administrative team.
