On Saturday afternoon, Matthew Craig and his Barnsley side made it three wins in a row in League One with a 2-1 victory at home to Bristol Rovers.

It was a heavily reduced docket in League One. The League in principle does not have international breaks, unlike the Premier League and the Championship, but if a side has three players away with their countries they can postpone a game to be played later on when said players are available.

As a result, there were only three games out of a possible twelve played in League One this weekend, giving Barnsley a chance to take advantage and get points on the board to put pressure on their counterparts.

That they did, with a very dominant victory that should have been by more goals. This victory has taken The Tykes up into third in the League One table, outside of the top 2 automatic promotion spots on goal difference.

Craig played as a lone defensive midfielder as manager Darrell Clarke went with a gung-ho 4141 setup in an attempt to dominate the game. The midfielder made six tackles, two interceptions, blocked a shot, won 6/10 ground duels, completed 4/6 long balls, and had 59 touches in a battering performance within a setup that tasked him with plenty to do defensively and on the ball.

The 21-year-old has started all four games he has been available for in the League since joining, having made the step up from League Two where he impressed so much for Doncaster Rovers in the second half of last season. He also played 57 minutes in the Carabao Cup during Barnsley's penalty shootout win against Wigan, which has set up an exciting tie against Manchester United at Old Trafford to look forward to in the next round.

Before that, though, is a trip to Stevenage in their next League One game next Saturday, with kick-off being 15:00 BST and 10:00 ET.
