Spurs loan watch: Perfect afternoon for Tottenham loanee
By Tom Vinall
Bryan Gil and his Girona counterparts got their first win of the 24/25 season, with a resounding 4-0 win at home to CA Osasuna on Thursday.
Girona had famously finished third last season, but had been picked off over the summer, losing several of their best players, and only had one point from their first two La Liga games.
That changed on Thursday, however. Gil started for a third game in a row, playing off the left hand side in Michel's 442 formation.
34 minutes into the game, Viktor Tsygankov cut inside from the right flank and whipped a ball towards the far post, where Gil was able to steer the ball into the back of the net. showing superb goalscoring instincts to attack the back post and get something on the cross to open the scoring.
That goal put Girona 1-0 up going into halftime, and Gil's teammates added three goals in the second half to complete a superb and much-needed victory.
Very productive day for Bryan Gil and Girona
Gil played 81 minutes, before being subbed for former Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek. In those 81 minutes, the on-loan Spurs man recorded: One big chance created, one accurate cross, two shots on target, one successful dribble, two ground duels won, one foul drawn, and one clearance.
After three games, Gil and Girona find themselves 7th in La Liga, with four points and a plus-one goal difference. Gil also finds himself with more La Liga goals than Kylian Mbappe.
Today was also the day that Girona found out who their Champions League "league phase" opponents are, with Liverpool and Paris Saint Germain amongst the tougher tests they will face in their first-ever European campaign.
Next up for Gil and his counterparts is the visit of Sevilla this Sunday, in the last game before the September international break, kick-off is at 18:00 BST, 13:00 ET.
