On Wednesday evening, Bryan Gil and his Girona side were in Champions League action, as they welcomed Dutch side Feyenoord to Spain in one of the two earlier kick-offs. They would be looking to bounce back from their heartbreaking last-minute defeat to Paris Saint Germain last time out in their first-ever Champions League game.

Gil was back in the side for this game, starting on the left hand side of a 4231 setup.

It was a dramatic affair from start to finish. Girona took the lead after 19 minutes, just to be pegged back by an own goal just four minutes later. After 33 minutes, Feyenoord took the lead, before missing a penalty just three minutes later, and the sides went into the break with the visitors 2-1 up.

Seven minutes into the second half, Feyenoord has a goal ruled out by VAR. Midway through the half, Girona would miss a penalty of their own, before equalising six minutes later. However, just another six minutes after that, Girona put the ball in their own net for a second time, and Feyenoord had a 3-2 lead - one they would hold onto on this occasion.

Gil was replaced amidst the chaos, with 15 minutes remaining - with the score 2-2. It was another unassuming game from the Spurs man, though he did play his part in the build-up for the Girona penalty.

This second defeat in two Champions League games has left Girona in 30th place out of 36 teams in the new-look league phase. Next up in the Champions League is a home game against Slovan Bratislava on the 22nd of October - a big opportunity for them and one they simply have to win.

Their next game in general is a home game against Athletic Club in La Liga this weekend, with the game being a 13:00 BST kick-off.
