Spurs loan watch: A round-up of Championship action for Tottenham loanees
By Tom Vinall
This midweek marked the first slate of fixtures for all three of the English Football Leagues, meaning there was Championship action, and therefore games for Dane Scarlett's Oxford United and Ashley Phillips' Stoke City.
First, on Tuesday night, Scarlett and Oxford traveled to Luton, as they played their second game against a recently relegated Premier League side in as many games, having earned a credible draw at home to Burnley at the weekend. Scarlett was once again named amongst the subs for this encounter, coming on with six minutes to go, leaving him unable to make an impact.
On the bright side, Oxford did come away with another credible result, fighting back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw, with fans from both sides saying Des Buckingham's side deserved to win the game. The Yellows were denied a penalty in injury time - it would have been interesting to see if Scarlett would have taken had the spot kick been given - something that could have sparked his loan spell into life.

It wasn't to be. This draw leaves Oxford United in eleventh place, seriously impressive for a side who were in League One last season, and has them above the other two newly promoted sides. They are only four points off a playoff spot.
Onto Wednesday night, where Phillips and Stoke City hosted one of the other two aforementioned newly promoted sides - Portsmouth. Phillips was on the bench, having recovered from a head injury that had kept him out of action for the first two games under new manager Narcis Pelach.
The young defender was an unused substitute, though it is encouraging to see him available for selection again. Stoke managed an empthatic 6-1 win, which has taken them up five places to 15th.
Next up for Oxford is ironically a trip to Portsmouth, this Saturday in the early 12:30 BST kick off. As for Stoke, it is a trip to Wales to face Swansea City, at 15:00 BST. These will be the last game for each player before the October international break, where they could well meet up again on England U20 duty.
