Spurs international watch: Tottenham duo in action for England U20s

On Friday night, Spurs' on-loan youngsters Ashley Phillips and Dane Scarlett both started for England U20s, in their U20 elite league game away to Turkiye.

Phillips played the whole game, whilst Scarlett very nearly did, being substituted after 90 minutes, just after Dom Ballard scored to rescue England a point on the road, as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw. The England side boasted the likes of Jobe Bellingham, who could have been a club teammate of Scarlett's, and he probably wishes that was the case.

That is because the 20-year-old has been struggling for consistent game time on loan at Oxford United in the Championship so far, having started just one game, in the Carabao Cup. His arrival at Oxford has coincided, or perhaps not so coincidentally, with a brilliant run of form from their other striker Mark Harris, whose goals had fired them to an unlikely promotion last season.

This comes after a very disappointing loan to Ipswich Town last season, where he was recalled by Spurs in January having not started a single game for Ipswich on their way to promotion to the Premier League.

Things have been more fruitful for Ashley Phillips, who, after being on the bench for Stoke City's first game, a defeat at home to West Bromwich Albion, started the next two games within a four day period, as Stoke won both games, the first against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup, before a win against Plymouth Argyle in the league, notably keeping two clean sheets.

England U20s have a game on Tuesday, against Romania, where Phillips and Scarlett will play together once more, before they play against each other on Saturday, as Oxford United welcomes Stoke City to the Kassam Stadium for a 12:30 BST/07:30 ET kick-off. Well, hopefully, they get a chance to play against each other.

The aforementioned game against Romania on Tuesday, which is another U20 elite league fixture, will kick off at 19:00 BST, and 14:00 ET.
