Spurs defenders face off as Euro 2024 progresses to round of 16
Spurs fans can be nothing but elated by the fact that every Lilywhite at the Euros has moved past the group stage with their respective national teams.
However, as fate would have it, two of those footballers, both defenders, will face off against one another as the tournament progresses to the round of 16.
Next Tuesday, Romania will take on the Netherlands; Or in other words, Radu Dragusin will take on Micky van de Ven.
For Dragusin, it will likely be one of the biggest challenges of the tournament thus far, both for him and his fellow teammates. The 22-year-old has started in every match his team has played, and unless injury says otherwise, it's likely that trend will continue next week.
For VDV, the story is a bit different. The Premier League's fastest recorded player of all time has received minimal game time off the bench and will likely be the second option behind highly-rated starters like Virgil van Dijk and Nathan Ake.
Nevertheless, the match up should prove to be an entertaining one.
Though the tournament is unquestionably challenging for any side no matter the opponent, it's fair to say that whoever wins Tuesday's match will have a favorable path to the final, with the next opponent to be the winner of Austria and Turkey's clash, two sides ranked considerably lower in Fifa's list than country's on the other side of the bracket (25th and 42nd respectively).
For both players, it's their first time representing their countries at a major international tournament, let alone the knockout stages of one.
As most Spurs fans would predict, it's fair to say that each will put on their best, as Dragusin works to help his side upset the favored Dutch, and VDV works to further solidify his standing amongst an extremely talented squad.
