Spurs defender snubbed for international duty

Whilst jetting off with his Spurs team-mates to Australia for a post-season friendly, Pedro Porro would have been hoping that the end of the trip wasn't the beginning of a summer off.
Sadly for the Spurs full-back, however, it was. This week Spain manager Luis De La Fuente announced his provisional squad for the Euros and Porro's name wasn't on the list.
He instead opted for Dani Carvajal and Jesus Navas. Carvajal is a regular in the Real Madrid team, so he felt like a natural, understandable choice. However, given the senior nature of Jesus Navas, Porro can perhaps feel aggrieved that the 38-year-old defender was chosen before him.
Navas, despite his experience and contributions to Sevilla, is nearing the twilight of his career, and many expected a younger option like Porro to be given the nod. Porro's impressive performances and growth potential made him a strong candidate, making the decision even more surprising and possibly disappointing for the young talent.

Porro had had an excellent season in North London, excelling going forward despite a new more inverted role, and brushing up his defensive season. He would have surely hoped he had done enough to be chosen, especially after call-ups whilst in worse form.
The good news is that Porro will have a summer to recharge the batteries and be ready to go again next season. Whilst he won't appreciate that viewpoint right now, it is good for Spurs that one of their key men can't get any injuries representing his country this summer.
