New Son Heung-min record demonstrates how he is key to Tottenham
By Kian Long
Son Heung-min needs no introduction to Tottenham Hotspur fans. Without a shadow of a doubt, the South Korea international is a Tottenham legend.
At this point in time, Son Heung-min has already made 305 Premier League appearances for Tottenham Hotspur, scoring 122 league goals in the process. He is showing no signs of stopping either and would like to further cement his legacy as a club legend.
In the 2023/24 campaign, Son Heung-min was Tottenham's top goal-scorer and in all honesty, their best player by a long shot. In the post-Harry-Kane season, it was Kane's good friend, Sonny, who stepped up to the mark and kept Tottenham afloat.
Son Heung-min has also had an impressive start to the 2024/25 campaign, scoring a brace in the most recent Premier League game against Everton.
New Son Heung-min record demonstrates how he is key to Tottenham
According to a statistic posted by WhoScored on X (formerly Twitter), Son Heung-min has won back possession in the attacking third more times (6) than any other Premier League player so far this season.
This demonstrates just how pivotal Son Heung-min is to Tottenham and the way they want to play under Ange Postecoglou.
I always say that the sign of a great attacker is how well-loved he is by his own players and how hated he is by other teams. If this is anything to go by, then players must hate playing against Son.
Son is a spirited player. He plays with high energy levels but what sets him apart from other workhorses is his efficiency in winning back the ball.
Despite not being stereotypically broad or domineering in his appearance, Son is able to win back possession through his cunning football intelligence.
It is an important trait to possess as an attacker and it certainly shouldn't be overlooked by Tottenham fans or Ange Postecoglou. If Tottenham are to go far this season, Son will be largely to thank.
