Reguilon to take on second loan spell of the season, now with Brentford
In the past week, Tottenham have brought in Radu Dragusin to bolster their defense, an area of the pitch they have struggled to solidify over the past few seasons. However, despite the apparent need for reinforcements, there are some who have struggled to find a place in the squad, Sergio Reguilon amongst them.
As Fabrizio Romano reports, the Spanish footballer will head to Brentford this Wednesday to undergo medical tests and complete a deal, not including an option to buy, that will see him join the Bees for the remainder of the season.
The full-back made nine league appearances for the Red Devils across the first half of the season, but will likely find more playing time during the latter portion as he enters a side currently sitting just two spots above the relegation zone.
Spurs have been with two extremely reliable options on the defensive flanks with Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro thus far, and are currently struggling to offload a number of other wing-backs who have yet to factor into Ange's plans.
Djed Spence was recently sent back out on loan to Genoa CFC, the club Spurs snatched Dragusin from. Japhet Tanganga is also off on loan, currently stationed with German-side FC Augsburg.
At the moment, the club have Emerson Royal and Ben Davies to fill in as alternatives for the right and left-back roles respectively. Davies put up exceptional performances while filling in during Micky van de Ven's injury crisis earlier this season, and while Emerson isn't a fan-favorite, the club doesn't have the depth to offload him any time soon. To his credit, the Brazilian's attacking prowess and skill on the ball also make him an excellent option in Ange's inverted-fullback role when taking the ball up the pitch.
Reguilon's actual time spent in North London has been extremely minimal over the past few years, with his most recent appearance in Lilywhite coming way back in the 21/22 season. Time will tell if the 27-year-old will have a spot in the squad come this summer, with his contract set to expire in June of 2025.
