Pundit warns Ange Postecoglou after worst Tottenham start in nine years
By Manuel Meza
Jamie Redknapp has issued a stark warning to Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou following what has been described as the club’s worst start to a Premier League season in nearly a decade.
The former Spurs midfielder has suggested that the Australian boss may not have much time to turn things around before pressure mounts for his dismissal.
Tottenham’s current form has been disappointing, with the team managing only one win from their opening four games. Their sole victory came in a convincing 4-0 triumph over Everton, who are languishing at the bottom of the table.
However, the club has drawn against Leicester City and suffered defeats at the hands of Newcastle United and Arsenal. This poor start leaves Tottenham with just four points, a stark contrast to the impressive performance they displayed in the early part of last season.
In the 2023/24 campaign, Spurs made an electrifying start under Postecoglou, going unbeaten in their first ten matches with eight wins and two draws. The current season, however, has yet to see any significant momentum, raising concerns among fans and pundits alike.

Redknapp, speaking to Sky Sports, expressed his concerns about Postecoglou’s position, emphasising the cutthroat nature of the Premier League:
"This time last year, Spurs were fantastic to watch. We were all praising the manager and the attractive football. But now, the free-flowing style has vanished. If you play well but don’t win, the quality will drop, and that’s what we’re seeing."
"They need to start picking up results quickly. The reality is, if you’re not winning games at this club, you don’t get long. Ange needs to start delivering victories soon."
Despite Redknapp’s warnings, Les Ferdinand has come to Postecoglou’s defence. Ferdinand acknowledged that Tottenham had performed well in their opening games, but had been lacking in key moments:
"They’re not far off. I think Ange is the right man for Tottenham at this moment. There’s a lack of quality and a need for some of the new signings to get up to speed."
Ferdinand also highlighted that sacking a manager early in their tenure is rarely productive, citing Arsenal’s experience with Mikel Arteta. Arteta faced significant criticism early in his tenure but eventually built a successful team:
"If you’re going to commit to a project, you need to give it two or three years before making any decisions about the manager’s future. Football fans need to be more patient."
The pressure on Postecoglou will undoubtedly increase if results do not improve.
