Per Dean Jones, Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres is firmly on Tottenham Hotspur's radar and there is "growing confidence" that the striker could be signed.

Jones, now based in San Diego, also stated that the Swedish striker could be available for less than his £84m release clause, which Sporting had initially been demanding to entertain any offers for their star striker this summer.

Gyökeres, 26, signed from Championship outfit Coventry City last summer for a fee of €20 million, plus a further €4 million in add-ons.

He took to life in Portugal like a duck to water, scoring 29 goals and putting up 10 assists in 30 league games for the Lisbon outfit.

It was reported that he had turned down moves to the Premier League last summer, feeling that Sporting CP and the Portuguese league were better for his development at the time.

But, at 26, Gyökeres is now entering his prime years and may well feel that a return to England and to the Premier League is the best way to spend those years.

Gyökeres had been mooted as a potential reinforcement for the number 9 position for Spurs this summer, but doubts had been cast over whether or not it would be a financially viable operation.

However, if it is true that Sporting CP may accept an offer smaller than the aforementioned release clause, doors could open for a potential deal. This would check out with the report from Dean Jones that there was growing confidence in a deal being struck.

Gyökeres would be a game-changing signing for Spurs, a deal that would instantly increase their chances of finishing top 4 and competing for trophies. A prolific striker coming into his prime years who would thrive off the chances created with 'AngeBall'.
