When it comes to Premier League strikers, there isn't really anyone better to listen to than Alan Shearer - the league's all-time top goalscorer with 260 goals, 47 clear of any other player. When he speaks about strikers, it is worth listening to.

There was a chance in the first half, where Spurs had managed to force a high turnover with a good structure out of possession and some very high pressing. The ball fell to Solanke just inside the box, but he took too many touches to try and get the ball out of his feet, in a big chance that went begging for Spurs.

Speaking to Premier League productions, the former Newcastle United striker said:

"You have got ten yards where there is no defender that can get to you. You don’t need three touches which is what he tried to do. The really top players take one touch, move it out of their feet, and get the shot away at goal."

Shearer does make a good point. You have to be ruthless in the Premier League when you get a sniff goal, otherwise, you will be dispossessed like Solanke was yesterday. You feel that a confident Solanke would have backed himself after his first touch and got a shot off.

Perhaps the fact he is just back from an injury meant he was lacking that match sharpness and if he had that usual rhythm, he would have got a shot off before any Arsenal player had the chance to get a challenge in.

That said, he did contribute to some good pressing from Spurs in the first half, which is a positive - and perhaps does suggest it was more of a confidence issue.

In any case, a player who scored 19 Premier League goals last season has not turned into a bad player overnight, and hopefully, he will start finding form soon. The midweek game against Coventry City might be the perfect chance to improve his match sharpness and grab a goal or two for his confidence.
