Lo Celso could return to La Liga if Xavi’s transfer priorities are fulfilled

Tottenham's midfielder could be on the way out, but that's only if Ange is willing to give up on his potential as a Maddison alternative, and if Barcelona can figure out their financial situation.

Despite a lack of appearances in Lilywhite over the past two years, Giovani Lo Celso has found himself both in good form and the Spurs starting line-up in recent matches. Barcelona now seem keen to obtain the player’s services, a continuation of their summer pursuit.

With a recent blow to Barca’s midfield following Gavi’s ACL injury while on international duty, manager Xavi is on the lookout for reinforcements.

Sport report that Tottenham are hoping to keep the player, however, and with financial struggles a continuing issue for the Spanish club, it seems unlikely the Argentine will be leaving.

Gio’s contract expires 18 months come this January, however with that time frame there’s still ample opportunity for Spurs to extend the midfielder's agreement if Ange sees him fitting into his future plans.

Tottenham have what is arguably close to the best midfield depth of any team in the Premier League, with the likes of Lo Celso, Pape Sarr, Yves Bissouma, Pierre Hojbjerg, and Oliver Skipp among their first-team ranks, excluding of course one of Tottenham’s biggest summer signings, James Maddison. Kulusevski, as we’ve seen in recent matches, can also slot into the central role.

With this in mind, a move won’t be catastrophic for Ange. However, if the player’s current form is at all reflective of his potential, it would be a mistake to blindly accept a bid from Barca.
