Liverpool swoop in to disrupt Tottenham plans, favored to sign young right-back
Liverpool have a clear advantage over Tottenham Hotspur in the pursuit of Feyenoord right-back Lutsharel Geertruida, thanks to the presence of Arne Slot at Anfield, according to a report from CaughtOffside.
Geertruida has risen to prominence as one of the most promising right-backs in the Eredivisie over the past couple of years. The 23-year-old is expected to play a significant role for the Netherlands at this summer’s European Championships.
On Wednesday, Algemeen Dagblad reported that Tottenham are among several Premier League clubs interested in the Dutch defender. With just a year remaining on his contract, Geertruida is set to leave De Kuip this summer. Tottenham, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and West Ham United have all been alerted to his availability.
CaughtOffside confirmed the interest from both Spurs and the Reds. Tottenham see Geertruida as a potential replacement for Emerson Royal, who is expected to depart this summer. However, Liverpool's advantage comes from Arne Slot, who has taken over from Jurgen Klopp. Slot has a good relationship with Geertruida and has urged Liverpool’s hierarchy to secure the right-back’s services.

Liverpool are reportedly ready to make a move for the defender, putting them in a strong position to land him. Eager to challenge himself in the Premier League, Geertruida is valued by Feyenoord at approximately £17m-£21.2m.
While Geertruida would be a solid addition to Tottenham’s squad, especially as a replacement for Emerson Royal, it might be wiser for the North London club to prioritize signing homegrown players for backup positions. This strategy could help balance the squad’s composition, particularly with the homegrown player rule in mind.
Kyle Walker-Peters, who previously played for Tottenham, could be a viable option, offering both Premier League experience and familiarity with the club. Leeds’ Archie Gray is another intriguing alternative, providing youth and potential for the future.
With both Liverpool and Tottenham eyeing Lutsharel Geertruida, the summer transfer window promises to be an exciting battle for his signature. Will Tottenham opt for a homegrown alternative or push hard for the Dutch star?
