According to Lyall Thomas, Spanish top-flight side Getafe are "among clubs keen" to take Tottenham's Ashley Phillips on loan for the 24/25 season.

Thomas states that the club "could allow" the teenager to go on loan again before the deadline at the end of this month.

Phillips impressed on loan at Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle last season, featuring in 20 games in all competition for the South West side and earning a call up to the England U20 side in the process.

The Madrid based La Liga club would certainly be a step up in standard for Phillips and would provide a good test for him as he tries to further his development.

The defender, 19, and stands at around 6'4 tall, featured in Spurs' first three friendlies of pre-season against Hearts, Queens Park Rangers and Vissel Kobe, playing 45 minutes in the first two games and 24 minutes against Vissel Kobe - but has failed to appear in a single matchday squad since then.

Getafe manager Jose Bordalas is known for his defensive set up and being able to coach well out of possession, which could suit Phillips and his style of play. He could play in defence with experienced defenders such as Domingos Duarte and Djene, both of whom the young Spurs defender could learn a lot from.

Phillips joined the club from Blackburn Rovers for £2m last summer and featured in a few Premier League matchday squads, as well as a few appearances for the U21s in the Bristol St Motors cup, before heading out on loan to Plymouth in January of this year.

Even with the added fixture congestion this season, it is hard to see Phillips getting many, if any, minutes in the first-team this season, and a loan in a top-flight league could be exactly the experience he needs. Getafe is a big step up from Plymouth, however, and you just hope he will be able to get the optimal game necessary to develop as best he can.
