Jose Mourinho takes a jab at Tottenham
Jose Mourinho’s time at Tottenham Hotspur wrapped up amid quite a bit of drama, and it looks like he still has some lingering issues. His recent comments during a Fenerbahçe press conference have brought up old memories of his rocky stint in North London.
Mourinho was appointed by Tottenham in November 2019, replacing Mauricio Pochettino, who had been dismissed after a highly successful five-year stint.
Pochettino had guided Spurs from mid-table obscurity to the Champions League final in 2019 and consistently challenged for top honors.
The arrival of Mourinho, a manager renowned for his winning mentality, was intended to transform the squad into trophy winners and end the club’s silverware drought since 2008.
Mourinho's defensive style didn't quite mesh with the exciting football fans were used to under Pochettino. His time at Tottenham was full of ups and downs and ended with him being fired just days before a League Cup final against Manchester City.
This surprise departure left Mourinho feeling pretty bitter, especially since he didn’t get to manage his team in such a big game.

Jose Mourinho takes a jab at Tottenham
Since leaving Tottenham, Mourinho has found success with Roma, continuing his streak of winning trophies at every club he has managed—except for Spurs.
At Fenerbahçe, Mourinho has started strong, securing victories in both Champions League qualification matches and preparing for a major clash against Lille.
During a recent press conference discussing his European qualifiers with Fenerbahçe, Mourinho made a notable comment, claiming he had never lost a European qualifier before.
When a journalist pointed out his European failures at Tottenham, Mourinho’s retort, “I forgot Tottenham,” sparked confusion.
Even though Mourinho didn’t actually lose any qualifiers with Spurs in the 2020/21 season—when they beat Lokomotiv Plovdiv, Shkendija, and Maccabi Haifa—his comment seemed to hint that he was referring to his lack of experience with European qualifiers before his time at Tottenham.
