Highly-rated Spurs target could drop to £30m value, journalist reports
Spurs have now been linked with a Conor Gallagher transfer across the previous two windows, but with recent valuations from Chelsea putting the asking fee at £50m, the club were put off from pursuing a purchase.
Now, however, journalist Dean Jones reports that the player's value could drop to the range of just £30m or £35m this summer, making the move a lot more likely (via The Spurs Web).
The report comes at the same time as another page turns in the Gallagher transfer saga, with Jones also indicating that Tottenham consider the English footballer a "dream signing".
At this point in the season, with another 13 matches to be played and multiple months before the transfer window opens up, there's plenty that could happen in the interim which may persuade Spurs to look elsewhere, or convince Chelsea to maintain their high asking price.
Currently, Spurs are operating with the likes of James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr, Giovani Lo Celso, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as some of the notable names amongst their midfield ranks. With the arrival of 18-year-old Swedish star Lucas Bergvall this July and the return of other youth talent currently on loan, Tottenham's options at the center of the pitch will be plentiful, even without signing the Chelsea man.
It's difficult to estimate whether these links or a depreciation in Gallagher's value will be enough to see the player make his way to North London, especially since he has formerly stated his preference for staying at Chelsea. Nevertheless, Jones' insight would make a potential move far more likely.
