Former Tottenham player wants a return to North London, reports

Spurs seem to be actively searching for new attacking options, but if recent reports are accurate, then there's a player knocking on their door as well.

Sporting CP winger Marcus Edwards is supposedly interested in returning to Tottenham this summer, according to Correio da Manhã.

The 25-year-old came up through Tottenham's youth academy, where he combined for 17 goal contributions in 28 games for the U23s (Transfermarkt).

The Englishman left the club in 2019 and joined Sporting, his current club, in 2022 (Transfermarkt). Since then, he's made 110 appearances for the Portuguese side, scoring 21 goals and providing 26 assists from the right flank.

Edwards is now at a pivotal moment in his career. At 25, he's in what's often considered to be the prime years of a footballer's career.

His numbers across the past few seasons have been decent, with 16 goal contributions in league play during the 22/23 campaign, along with nine this past season (Transfermarkt). Nevertheless, it's difficult to say whether or not those stats will be enough to match the demands of Premier League competition.

Spurs currently have Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson as the favored right-wing options, though Kulusevski's success as an attacking midfielder could prompt Ange to move the winger more centrally. If that's the case next season, then perhaps a relatively inexpensive right-wing option (compared to others) like Edwards would be a welcome addition to The Lilywhites.

Transfermarkt currently values the winger at €25.00m.

Time will certainly tell whether or not the player's hopes will come to fruition. What is uncertain is whether or not, if brought over to the Prem, Edwards will be able to keep up with the pace of 'Ange-ball' and the intensity of a league he's never experienced.

That decision will be up to the club, and fans will hope it's a wise one.
