In January, Eric Dier had signed with Bayern Munich, initially for the remainder of the season. However, his contract with Tottenham ended in June, and Bayern had reserved an option to renew it for another year.

According to The Athletic (h/t Marca), the Bavarian team has already exercised the clause to automatically renew his commitment. To date, the English international has played six games for Bayern, starting in four of them.

Well, the versatile player has shown understanding regarding Ange Postecoglou’s choice not to field him, recognizing that the Australian might not have seen him as a perfect fit for his tactics.

While Dier wasn't always a fan favorite at Tottenham, he was consistently valued by the various managers he played under, including Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Antonio Conte.

However, things took a turn for the 30-year-old after Postecoglou took over last summer, with the new coach seeming to prefer other options over him.

Even when Tottenham's first-choice center-backs were sidelined due to injuries earlier this season, Postecoglou seemed reluctant to give Dier a chance.

Since his move to Bayern Munich, Dier has managed to revitalize his career and has become a regular starter.

Regarding his relationship with Postecoglou, Dier expressed, "I didn’t take it personally, him not playing me. If he doesn’t like me, it’s not a problem for me. Lots of people won’t like me, lots of people like me, it’s irrelevant."

He continued, "I really enjoyed working under him, and I learned a lot. I’d love to sit down and talk to him now. I have so many questions — about the way he does certain things and why he does them. Hopefully, one day, I’ll be able to."

This is football. The beautiful game gives us stories like this. As a player, sometimes you may be more valued by one coach than another, and that's natural. Sometimes you may also prefer one coach over another. It happens, and the best thing you can do is be professional and if you're not needed in one project, look for another.

Of course, this becomes difficult when you're so established in a certain club and/or city.
