Over the past week, numerous Italian media outlets have suggested that Emerson is on the verge of completing a transfer to AC Milan.
Gazzetta dello Sport recently reported that the Tottenham defender has already agreed to personal terms on a five-year deal with the Rossoneri. The Italian club is eager to finalize the transfer quickly, aiming for the 25-year-old to join his new teammates for pre-season training as early as Monday.
Mundo Deportivo has now identified AC Milan as the frontrunner for Emerson, but they also noted that Barcelona could pose a late challenge. The report explains that Barcelona may not be able to afford a permanent deal for Joao Cancelo and are therefore exploring other options.
Emerson Royal is one of the alternatives they have identified, with Tottenham valuing him at £21 million. This interest from Barcelona adds an unexpected twist to what seemed like a straightforward move to Milan for the Brazilian right-back.
