Tottenham Hotspur fans should be braced for more player exits before the summer transfer window ends. So far, the confirmed departures have included Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Ryan Sessegnon, Bryan Gil, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga, Tanguy Ndombele, Ivan Perisic and Joe Rodon. More are expected to join this long list, though.

Towards the end of last season, Ange Postecoglou famously questioned the foundations of Tottenham, hinting that the club needed a complete rewiring from the core. The easiest starting point, at least immediately, is to sell some of the players who do not make the club tick. Unfortunately, Emerson Royal is another one of those players.

According to an update from Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter), AC Milan and Tottenham are due to have their final talks today, over the sale of Emerson Royal. It is believed the final package will be €15m plus add-ons and as things stand, Emerson Royal is on the verge of leaving Tottenham to join AC Milan.

Despite the long departure list, Emerson Royal is set to be only the second money-maker. As per Transfermarkt, Tottenham have made €11.8m from player sales, with Joe Rodon being the only player to leave for a transfer fee. The rest were either free deals or loan deals, so not benefitting Tottenham from a financial sense.

Emerson Royal has been at Tottenham since 2021 but to no great success. The full-back has been good from a rotational sense, but there is always fear when he's included in the starting lineup. For a team who should be competing for the top four, Tottenham must have the standards of a top four club. This is why it's good that Royal is being sold, because he simply doesn't meet those standards.

Emerson Royal will leave Tottenham having made 79 Premier League appearances and scoring four Premier League goals. We wish him nothing but the best in Serie A.
