Destiny Udogie receives pay rise as Spurs agree new deal with Italian full-back

Shutting down wingers, providing midfield passing options, drawing defenders, making daring runs, and... scoring goals? It seems like Destiny Udogie has been able to do it all for Spurs this season, and he's rightly being rewarded for it.

As Fabrizio Romano confirmed yesterday, Tottenham have renegotiated the 21-year-old's contract to include a pay raise, with his agreement, previously set to run until 2027, now extended to the summer of 2030.

Tottenham announced the completion of the deal earlier today.

Spurs fans will be ecstatic to see his place at the club solidified for the better half of the next decade. His market value has sky-rocketed over the past year from £19m to £32.7m, according to Transfermarkt, so the deal comes at a great time with his growing presence along with increased interest from other clubs in the market.

One concern that often arises with such long-term deals is that of injury potential. Thus far in his career, Udogie has missed a combined 148 days of football due to injury across three and a half seasons. Those numbers are a bit higher than some fans might be comfortable with, but to date he's only had one major knock and is far from being deemed injury-prone.

The forward trejectory for the Italian seems only upwards from here. He's recently caught the attention of the national team, making appearances in the starting squad and off the bench against England and Malta back in October respectively, but missing out during the most recent international break due to injury.

Udogie will clearly be crucial for Tottenham this season with his versatility. As he matures as a player and adds on an additional level of reliability and improved decision-making, he could be a core player across Spurs' back-line for seasons to come.
