Coventry 1-2 Tottenham: Summary, highlights & all goals in video
The first half was largely uneventful, despite Spurs dominating possession with 74%. They struggled to create any real chances and failed to register a shot on goal. Coventry, on the other hand, looked much more dangerous on the break. Spurs' early plans were disrupted when Odobert pulled up with a hamstring injury in the 17th minute and was replaced by Brennan Johnson.
At half-time, with the score still goalless, Ange made some changes, bringing on Djed Spence for Udogie to add some energy. Spence made an immediate impact, clearing a dangerous Coventry attack nine minutes into the second half. However, Spurs were almost caught out again just two minutes later when Forster rushed off his line, leaving the goal open, but Ben Davies managed a crucial block to deny Haji Wright an easy finish.
Postecoglou introduced Son and Maddison on the hour mark, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Coventry from taking the lead in the 65th minute through Brandon Thomas-Asante, who finished smartly from a cross. Spurs looked rattled, struggling to get a foothold in the game, and had only registered three shots by the 70th minute.
With just 10 minutes remaining, Spurs finally began to show some life. Kulusevski, who had replaced Werner, forced a save from Coventry’s Ben Wilson, but the rebound was missed, leaving fans wondering if it was going to be one of those nights.
However, Spurs found an equaliser in the 87th minute, thanks to Spence from a Kulusevski pass. And in stoppage time, Johnson completed the comeback, calmly slotting past Wilson after being played through by Bentancur.
It was far from a convincing performance, and Spurs were arguably fortunate to progress, but they live to fight another day in the competition. Here’s the video summary with all the goals and the match’s most exciting moments:
