Chelsea in contact with Tottenham transfer target amid potential hijack
By Kian Long
Tottenham Hotspur clearly have big plans in the summer transfer window. However, having "big plans" only gets you so far, when you struggle to execute them. Particularly this summer after missing out on the top four, Tottenham fans expect to see some big names signed but more importantly, transfers which will genuinely transform the club and elevate them. Well, not if Chelsea are involved.
Chelsea in contact with Tottenham transfer target amid potential hijack
According to a report from Team Talk, Chelsea are in contact with Federico Chiesa over a potential transfer to West London, rather than North London. The report reveals that Enzo Maresca sees Chiesa as a logical step-up from Raheem Sterling, so he could target the Juventus forward, who is linked with a move away from Turin this summer.
It was claimed last week by Fabrizio Romano that Federico Chiesa had yet to decide on his future. The Italian winger is wanted by numerous clubs in Europe, which should not come as a surprise given his stature of a solid winger and of course, his budget-friendly price tag. Therefore, Tottenham fans should not expect a quick resolution with Federico Chiesa.
As much as Tottenham fans won't like to hear this, it's impossible to deny that Chelsea are a strong presence in the transfer window. We can claim all we want that Tottenham is a more attractive project than Chelsea (which is true), but when money is involved, Chelsea very rarely lose. Unfortunately, this is the economic nature of the sport which Tottenham must contend with.
Ange Postecoglou is building something positive at Tottenham. Understandably and rightly, he was not impressed with the foundations of the club. So, he is applying a long-term approach, something which previous managers of the club lacked. In many ways, he is hoping to return the project back to the trajectory it was on under Mauricio Pochettino.
If Federico Chiesa signs elsewhere from Tottenham, this shouldn't dishearten Tottenham. They must locate alternatives in the transfer window and execute a better transfer plan. But just because Chelsea are interested in Chiesa, it doesn't mean it's over for Tottenham.
Where do you think Federico Chiesa will play next season?
