Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley, who has been recently linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, appears to be on the verge of joining another Premier League club.

The 23-year-old Danish player has reportedly informed his current club that he is keen on signing with Brighton & Hove Albion, should the two clubs come to an agreement.

A few weeks ago, the ever-reliable Paul O'Keefe reported that Tottenham Hotspur were exploring the possibility of bringing O'Riley to North London. Intermediaries had presented the opportunity to Spurs, sparking interest in the talented midfielder.

However, after the initial reports, there were no further developments on this front, leaving Tottenham fans wondering if the deal had fallen through.

Tottenham's midfield has been an area of focus this summer, especially with the departures of key players like Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Oliver Skipp. Additionally, the imminent departure of Giovani Lo Celso has left a gap that Spurs are eager to fill.

For weeks, it seemed that Conor Gallagher was the primary target for Tottenham, but the English midfielder ultimately opted to sign with Atlético Madrid, leaving Tottenham in search of alternatives.

O'Riley has not only been on Tottenham's radar but has also attracted interest from several other top clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, Juventus, Inter Milan, and many more.

Atalanta was believed to have made multiple offers to sign the midfielder, but they could not reach an agreement with Celtic. Now, it appears that Brighton & Hove Albion are the frontrunners to secure O'Riley's signature.

Brighton’s move for O'Riley is a reminder that Tottenham might be letting a good opportunity slip away. The Seagulls are known for making smart signings and adding O'Riley to their squad would be another strong addition.

For Tottenham, missing out on a player like O'Riley, who brings technical skill, vision, and game control, could be a significant oversight, particularly with their need to strengthen the midfield.

If a deal can be agreed upon, O'Riley's move to the south coast could be one of the final big moves of this transfer window.
