Bayern Munich increasing pursuit to sign Spurs defender

Tottenham's center-back Eric Dier has been given the green light to leave the club this January, and one German club is looking to reunite him with a former teammate.

Despite the fact that an Eric Dier transfer won't be profitable for Tottenham given the club's approval for a free move, the potential reunion of the Englishman with former teammate Harry Kane is an intriguing prospect to say the least.

The Spurs veteran has played at the professional level in Portugal and England for nearly 12 years, and now he could take his talents to Germany as the league's powerhouse club looks to bring him in.

As Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic reports, Bayern Munich are currently "in talks" with the player. The added option to bring Dier in for free only sweetens the prospect of a move for a team that is said to be looking for new center-back options, just as Spurs are.

Kane and Dier shared the pitch for many years, with a combined 794 matches played in Lilywhite between them. It was devestating for fans to watch the striker leave this past summer, however, while it certainly won't be a point of celebration, Dier's departure will be more warmly recieved.

Tottenham are noticably in the midst of a transition period as they work to build up the squad's talent around the tactical playstyle of new manager Ange Postecoglou. With a high-line and preference for recovery speed and passing accuracy amongst his center-backs, Ange would only be hurting himself and Dier by keeping him at the club.

Spurs continue their defender search as talks with Radu Dragusin grow, as do those with Nice's Jean-Clair Todibo.
