Played at left-back against Man City and the summer signing must do the same against Sheffield United. Granted, he did not have the best game against City as the position revealed his weaknesses. Measures must be taken to sell Emerson Royal in the summer because he is not the player Tottenham need, even as a squad player. For the winning mentality Ange Postecoglou wishes to instil, it is reckless and clueless defenders like Royal who prevent that mentality from spreading.

Van de Ven, though, is a better quality defender and he's one of Tottenham's best signings in recent seasons. He will not like the thought of playing out of position again but this is just the way it must be for the final game of the season. As a team player, he is not likely to have complaints.
