4. Cristian Romero (€50m)

Tottenham signed Cristian Romero in 2021, initially on a season loan, from Serie A side Atalanta BC. Romero then impressed during his season on loan in North London, with Tottenham taking up their option to buy him permanently in 2022. The transfer fee was a rumoured €50m, making him the fourth most expensive Tottenham signing of all-time.

Romero is a brute defender, one which was more common in the English top flight during its glory years. While he is prone to defensive mistakes due to his "all or nothing" defensive style, Romero has established himself as an excellent Premier League defender and one of the unsung heroes in the division.

Romero has made 27 Premier League starts so far this season (2023/24), showing that he irreplaceable in the starting lineup, even under new head coach Ange Postecoglou. He has only increased in value since signing for Tottenham but understandably, the club would prefer to keep him rather than cash in the profit.
