Tottenham Hotspur play Brentford in their opening Premier League game of the season this weekend. Therefore, we are taking a look at the best players who have represented both sides.
Players who have played for Brentford and Tottenham—Ranked
1, Christian Eriksen
Christian Eriksen was one of the best attacking midfielders in the world when he was at Tottenham. His longevity at the club should also be noted, as he was with the club for seven years, from 2013 to 2020.
During this time, Eriksen played 305 times for Spurs, scoring 69 goals with 88 assists. However, he never won any silverware during this time, but he reached the finals of both the Champions League and the EFL Cup.
Eriksen left Spurs to join Inter Milan, where he won Serie A. However, his time with Inter was cut short after he suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020. He was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, which you are not allowed to play with in Serie A.
Brentford took a chance on Eriksen after he left Inter. The midfielder played 11 times for the Bees, where he scored once and made four assists. This earned him a move to Manchester United.
2. Sergio Reguilón
Sergio Reguilón arrived at Spurs from Real Madrid, so expectations were high. He helped Spurs reach the EFL Cup final in the 2020/21 season, when José Mourinho was sacked just before the final defeat to Manchester City.
Reguilón also has a Europa League winners medal with Spurs, this is despite not featuring, as Tottenham went on to end their trophy drought by defeating Manchester United in the final.
The latter part of Reguilón's time at Spurs was spent on loans to Atlético Madrid, Manchester United, and Brentford. With the Bees, he was good cover as Rico Henry got injured. He played 16 times for Brentford without scoring but did make four assists.
After making 73 appearances for Spurs in total, Reguilón left the club when his contract expired. He subsequently went to MLS, joining Inter Miami.
3. Kevin Dearden
Kevin Dearden came through the ranks at Spurs, but only made two appearances for their first time. Following multiple loans away from the club, he eventually joined Brentford. Dearden became a legend with the Bees, making over 200 appearances.
The goalkeeper was nicknamed the 'Flying Pig,' and he played for the Bees at Wembley in the Second Division play-off final in 1997. However, the Bees lost to Crewe Alexandra that day. Dearden went on to play for Wrexham and Torquay United before ending his career with Boreham Wood.
4. Alex Pritchard
Alex Pritchard also made just two senior appearances for Spurs. He was also loaned out multiple times by the club. This included a spell at Brentford, where he made 45 appearances in the Championship, scoring 12 goals with seven assists.
5. Ryan Fredericks
Ryan Fredericks has a similar story. He came through the ranks at Spurs but only made four senior appearances. One of his loans was to Brentford, but he only played five times for the Bees. Fredericks would eventually have a good career with notable spells at Fulham and West Ham.
6. John Bostock
John Bostock is an example of a player who never lived up to expectations. After bursting onto the scene at Crystal Palace, Bostock was linked with top clubs, including Barcelona. However, he ended up at Spurs but only made four appearances for the club.
Bostock was sent on loan to Brentford, where he scored two goals with two assists in 10 games. Bostock would go on to have a journeyman-like career.
Other notable players who played for both
There have been other players who played for both, but they featured minimally. This includes Kevin Watson, Steve Slade, and Paul Mahorn. If you delve further into the history books, you can find the likes of Jimmy (James Edward) Elliott and David Jenkins.
