If it were up to Tottenham Hotspur fans, this club would be making a massive splash to upgrade the attack after nearly getting relegated last season with Richarlison standing out as the only remotely threatening goal scorer for the duration of the 2025/26 season.
Spurs failed to replaced Harry Kane adequately two years ago, overpaying a record 65 million pound fee for the mediocre Dominic Solanke. And then they lost another legend in Son Heung-min last summer transfer window, signing no left wingers despite Savinho, Ademola Lookman, Omar Marmoush, Morgan Rogers, and Antoine Semenyo all being possibilities.
Now, though, Tottenham have a chance to sign the ultimate high risk, high reward propsoition and a former league MVP and league title winner who can transform this attack with a level of star power they did not have last season.
Tottenham need a new superstar
As relayed by Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan superstar left winger Rafael Leao told Sport TV in Portugal that he officially wants out of the Rossoneri after the club's disastrous 2025/26 season with Max Allegri, who was just fired and hired by Napoli.
Leao said of his situation, “I’m proud as I made history at AC Milan but I want new chapter. I feel ready to play in another league. I did my best for Milan, but it’s time to try another challenge."
The Portuguese international wanting to leave Milan comes as no surprise, and the only actual surprise here is that Rafael Leao waited this long to ask for his exit. Because despite winning the Serie A MVP in 2021/22 and playing brilliantly for the team, opening up the offense to make Christian Pulisic look a lot better than he is on the right side while playing with some of the worst strikers in the club's history, he has been thrown to the wolves by coaches and club as a target for criticism. Leao has shielded a lot of far worse players and coaches at Milan for their failings, and the club has done nothing to protect him from people like Antonio Cassano, who will even have you think Cristiano Ronaldo was not a great player.
Barcelona and other big clubs around Europe have been dreaming of the day that Rafael Leao would become available for a transfer. And Tottenham Hotspur supporters are among those dreaming of the electrifying winge shaking things up at N17, beacuse even though he can be inconsistent and has his flaws, his ability to create danger and be a superstar on the ball is very much missed around these parts.
