Pep Guardiola has reaffirmed that he will not take the upcoming Tottenham vs Man City fixture as seriously as his other competitions.

Football fans far and wide are constantly listening to players complain about the fixture schedule. It's a controversial topic but there is a growing sense that with players' wages being as high as they are, they have little room to complain.

In many ways, Man City players tend to be the loudest when it comes to this topic. Pep Guardiola's side cannot handle going far into every competition, meaning more games played. It's a nice problem to have, it must be said.

Well, Pep Guardiola is taking matters into his own hands. Tottenham could see this in action in this week's fixture.

Pep Guardiola is not taking Tottenham vs Man City as seriously as others

Pep Guardiola has already claimed that he's playing a weakened team against Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup this week. However, he has only reaffirmed this, by making a new claim in the buildup to the fixture.

In his own words, Pep Guardiola said: “Of course we will go [to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium] to compete but the main target is Bournemouth, Sporting and Brighton before the international break, this is the focus."

So, Pep Guardiola is not taking the match against Tottenham as seriously as other matches. It is not a coincidence that the Tottenham match is within the EFL Cup, whereas the other matches listed by Pep Guardiola are in the Champions League and the Premier League.

With no disrespect to the EFL Cup, it is pretty clear that other competitions take priority. This is often unspoken by managers but Pep Guardiola is not afraid to tread fire by making these comments.

Continuing, Pep Guardiola also said: “We will take a decision and if the players are fine we will play them against Spurs but if there are any doubts I’m not going to take a risk against Spurs, that’s for sure.”

So, this game is working in Tottenham's favour. Ange Postecoglou needs a win against Tottenham, especially after losing to Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Since he is eager to win silverware this season, Ange Postecoglou will be eager to go far in every competition. Despite the legitimacy of the EFL Cup being up for question, Tottenham is really in no position to be fussy about which trophies they win.
