Pedro Porro managed to make his first appearance of the 2026/27 season as he works his way back to fitness for Tottenham Hotspur, obtaining about 30 minutes of action in a 5-1 blowout win over Charlton Athletic in the Second Round of the League Cup. But he was not even the biggest appearance off the bench, as new 85 million pound signing Savio came into the game and scored and assisted in an electrifying appearance.
Savio is expected to be the starting left winger across from Mohammed Kudus on the right wing, immediately turning Spurs wings from a weakness into a huge strength, with young left winger Mathys Tel slotting in more comfortably as a backup. And Spurs are still bringing in Omar Marmoush, who can also play on the left, with significant interest in Cody Gakpo as another left wing option. Plus, Spurs are still being linked to one more proven Premier League winger in the versatile Iliman Ndiaye.
Although Savio and Kudus are set to be the pair with Marmoush in the middle, Roberto De Zerbi has laid down the gauntlet to Savio that he wants the Brazilian winger to score more goals. And if that's the case, since Savio is a left footed player, we could be seeing more of him on the right wing, especially if Spurs sign Gakpo from Liverpool.
Pedro Porro can help Savio score more goals
In that case, the best Tottenham Hotspur front three may not involve Mohammed Kudus, even though he is a fantastic player and was the best on Spurs last season. Kudus isn't much of a goal scorer, but the same can be said about Savio at Manchester City.
Still, Savio is the shiny new toy and honestly an even better footballer than Kudus, so if it comes down to a competition, the former could have a leg up on the right wing job. And it is worth noting that Savio did his finest work with the great fullbacks at Girona who were more attacking. With all due respect to the right back position at Manchester City, Pedro Porro is far, far beyond the players Savio worked with at the Eithad there, which is obviously why the Citizens tried to push hard to sign the Spanish international at the beginning of the transfer window.
Coming off winning the World Cup in which he was, by far, the best right back of the tournament, Porro is in his best period. He can rule the right flank defensively and offensively in terms of progression and creativity, allowing Savio to tuck inside even more to be decisive in terms of goals and assists. That could tempt De Zerbi to try out Savio as a right winger often with Porro behind him, and a full fit Porro and Savio combination could be lethal to the rest of the Premier League. Porro's work rate and support can help Savio be more of a scorer.
