Tottenham Hotspur right back Pedro Porro has raised his stock to new heights at the 2026 World Cup. He had a rough 2025/26 Premier League season, but, well, so did most of the Spurs players under Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor, because when Roberto De Zerbi came in, Porro was back to being a world beater and helped save Spurs from being relegated.

Yet he was even better than that for the Spanish national team, and he completed his astounding tournament in which he was, by far, the best right back in the world by shutting down Argentina in a 1-0 World Cup Final victory.

Porro had two tackles and two interceptions defensively with so may teasing crosses into the box, including a wonderful looped cross that led to the winner for Ferran Torres in extra time. He was impossible to beat in one on ones offensively and defensively, carrying the ball and tirelessly winning it, including making some decisive interventions to clean up potential counterattacking opportunities against Spain.

Chelsea can sit down

With his heroics at the World Cup, Pedro Porro not only ranked first among all defenders in WhoScored rating, but he also sent a pretty clear message to his rivals in the Premier League. Chelsea fans have touted Reece James as the best right back in English football for years, but after this World Cup, Porro will be the No. 1 player at the position.

James had another injury plagued tournament and did not really play at a high level for England at right back, as Djed Spence also outperformed him. But as great as Spence was in those clutch moments for England, there is no comparing him to what Porro did game in and game out for a full 90 minutes and more.

Porro worked tirelessly on both ends of the pitch, and after Real Madrid and Manchester City tried to poach him from Tottenham Hotspur when the summer 2026 transfer window first started, Porro has only made Spurs and Roberto De Zerbi look that much smarter for locking him down to a new contract.

Because Porro is indeed untouchable. When he was at Sporting CP five years ago, Porro was being tabbed as the best right back in the world of the future, and even then, Madrid and Man City were after his signature. For a full month at the World Cup against the best of the best, Porro proved that he is now in the prime and ascending to be the best, and he is 100 percent the best in the Premier League after what he did this summer. Reece James and Chelsea fans can sit down.
