Tottenham Hotspur head into the September international break dead last in the Premier League after Fulham's 1-1 draw with Manchester United sealed the two teams having two points, with Spurs goal differential sinking them into the final spot.

That means, through the first five Matchdays of the 2026/27 Premier League season, Spurs are even worse than they were last season when they finished 17th for a second straight season, even though they spent nearly 400 million pounds on new players.

And to make matters worse, Spurs may have lost one of their most crucial stars for an extended period. Spanish international Pedro Porro has already been confirmed out of the country's squad for the September international break and the first Nations League games of the new campaign after suffering an apparent hamstring injury in his return to the field on Saturday in the 3-2 loss to Aston Villa.

Pedro Porro is implying he will miss some time

Now, Porro has shared an injury update, via The Spurs Watch, "Sometimes you have to stop, breathe, and start again. Now it’s time to recover, and trust the process. I will come back stronger, hungrier, and more eager than ever. This is just another stone in the road. See you all soon."

While that sounds like an overall positive message from Pedro Porro and the words from the right back are indeed sweet to read, it's never actually a good sign when a player sends a three sentence message after an injury and uses words like these, especially talking about "come back stronger".

Because if the injury isn't a big one, then there is nothing really to come back from in the first place. But if the injury is something that will cost a player weeks to months, then they will immediately start up a post about it.

Porro has struggled for fitness so far in the 2026/27 Premier League seaosn, as Tottenham Hotspur have been robbed of a player who was legitimately the best right back in the world during the 2026 World Cup, creating chances and totally shutting down shop on the right flank for La Roja with defensive monster class after monster class.

With no backup right back in the squad, any injury to Porro is a devastating one for Spurs, and they have been demonstrably worse on the pitch without his services. Spurs fans can only hope he is back soon, but it's not looking good if he's already talking about having to "come back".
