Tottenham Hotspur right back Pedro Porro was one of several big stars who suffered a huge reputation hit during the 2025/26 Premier League season under Thomas Frank, yelling at the fans and others while cutting a frustrated figure with mental errors on defense and poor cross after poor cross aimlessly finding opponents' heads or the stands.
But when Roberto De Zerbi took over, he turned Porro back into a lion, and the Spanish national team right back played so well in saving Spurs from Premier League relegation that Manchester City and Real Madrid came back with serious interest in the young fullback.
De Zerbi and Spurs made it clear that they would not be selling Porro at any price, and, so far at the 2026 World Cup, Porro is proving De Zerbi unequivocally right for his full faith in the 26 year old former Sporting CP standout.

Pedro Porro did not begin the World Cup as the Spanish starter at right back, but he has quickly left Atletico Madrid's overrated Marcos Llorente in the dust. He has been better on both ends of the pitch, and he was particularly brilliant in Spain's Round of 32 win over Austria.
Not only did Porro make a world class run into the box to head home the cinching goal to make it 2-0, but he was a constant threat throughout the game as a passer. He was crossing the ball with accuracy, creating four chances in total for his teammates while winning three combined dribbles completed and fouls drawn.
Porro was the team's best creator after left winger Alex Baena, who takes set pieces, and he was also the team's best progressor of the ball besides Lamine Yamal, who is quite clearly the best dribbler in the entire world.
Tottenham Hotspur need the best version of Porro for the 2026/27 season if Roberto De Zerbi is to get this team to perform a remarkable turn around from 17th in back to back Premier League seasons to the top five of the top flight.
And for Spain, Porro is quickly becoming one of the team's biggest assets, and that fullback duo of Marc Cucurella and Porro is the best they have had since Joan Capdevilla and Sergio Ramos quietly dominated the flanks in the 2010 World Cup triumph. Spain are contenders again, and Porro is a hidden reason for that. De Zerbi will be proud.
