Pedro Porro and the Spanish national team are in preparations to take on France in the World Cup semifinals, and it will be a battle between the technical control and philosophy of the Reds against the dynamism and individual brilliance of the Blues.
Although Spain have not exactly blown anyone away in this World Cup, the have been able to get through tough matchups and eke out close wins with the Spanish ethos that it is the team that is the star, which is a concept many in France are familiar with now based on what Luis Enrique has done for PSG these last two seasons in the Champions League.
But in order for the team to be the star, the individuals all have to play their role, and while Lamine Yamal wins the Man of the Match awards and is the biggest name, Pedro Porro, the Tottenham right back, has been arguably the top performer.
Pedro Porro is doing Spurs proud
Tottenham Hotspur supporters know Porro's level very well. He was one of the best young right backs in the world before arriving, and Tottenham managed to get him before Manchester City and Real Madrid. And whlie he had inconsistent moments and struggled most when Spurs were at their worst, he was back to being absolute class when Roberto De Zerbi came in and changed the attitude and vibe of the squad, including his own.
Now with Porro on a truly competent side in Spain, the world is seeing what he can do, and he has not only been, by far, the best right back at the 2026 World Cup, but he has also been one of the top 10 players at the tournament of any position, clamping down even top wingers like Manchester City's Jeremy Doku in Spain's 2-1 quarterfinal win over Belgium.
Tottenham fans were telling Premier League supporters and the rest of the world for weeks, if not months, that Porro was back to being to his best, and he is only affirming that with each passing week. But against either Bradley Barcola or Desire Doue from PSG - or Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele at times on that flank - Porro will have to step up to another level for the Lilywhites.
But so far, all he has done is step up, and not only has he proven Roberto De Zerbi right for making him untouchable again to the biggest boys of European football like Madrid and Man City, but he is also making the Spurs fans who saw his rebound first very proud indeed.
