Tottenham could be on the hunt for a new manager this summer, as Ange Postecoglou's job isn't quite safe despite bringing Spurs the Europa League title - and subsequently Champions League football - this season.
That's because Tottenham finished a woeful 17th in the Premier League, setting a new club low. Postecoglou frustrated fans with insulting press conferences and horrendous tactics. But he did earn himself some goodwill by pulling it all together in the big games in the Europa League, which is why he has a chance to keep his spot.
However, Tottenham could be more inclined to part ways with Postecoglou if Fabio Paratici comes back as sporting director and feels he can find someone better on the market. Paratici has brought a lot of stars to Serie A as a former Juventus executive, and, perhaps, he could bring a great coach from the Italian league, too.
Tottenham could hire one of Europe's great tacticians
According to a report from Matteo Moretto of Relevo, after speculation that he could be leaving the club, Gian Piero Gasperini has indeed informed Atalanta of his plan to leave Bergamo this summer after nearly a decade with La Dea.
Gasperini is one of the most highly-regarded managers in world football, as he has turned Atalanta into a perennial powerhouse and a Champions League side capable of mixing it up with teams as mighty as Real Madrid. Although he can sometimes clash with star players, Gasperini's tactical innovation and ability to get the most out of talents (look at Ademola Lookman, Mateo Retegui, and Charles De Ketelaere this season) are undeniable.
With an established track record of success at the highest level of European football and an ability to shape a team tactically while developing young players, Gasperini, despite his disciplinarian style and ability to rub people the wrong way, could be a strong hire for Tottenham. Certainly, he has a better resume than many of the other candidates rumored to be replacing Postecoglou, including a more difficult Europa League triumph over Bayer Leverkusen in 2023/24.
Gasperini is now a legitimate candidate to take over for Postecoglou, and it will be curious to see if Spurs become linked to him, especially if the club decides to bring Paratici back in an important front office role. There aren't a lot of great options available on the market, so Gasperini could be the most accomplished coach on the list, ahead of Oliver Glasner.
