Tottenham Hotspur were not able to finish their summer transfer window on a high note in the attack, failing to bring in either Cody Gakpo or Iliman Ndiaye after Richarlison blocked a transfer to Everton. But the Lilywhites still had a strong window when taking a step back, signing two Manchester City star forwards in Savio and Omar Marmoush.
And so far, Savio and Marmoush are impressing. Savio scored and assisted off the bench in a 5-1 win over Charlton Athletic in the League Cup, and while Marmoush did not contribute to any goals in a shutout loss to Newcastle United, the Egyptian international was still brilliant, creating three chances and winning three dribbles in an excellent all around display.
After missing out on Gakpo and Ndiaye and signing Mykhaylo Mudryk instead, Tottenham Hotspur, however, are putting even more pressure on Marmoush. There was a lot of hope that with Gakpo, Spurs would be able to sign another player who is proven in the Premier League and capable of bringing goals to a team whose leading scorer was Richarlison with 11 in the league last season.
Omar Marmoush has to be the main man now
Spurs need more goals, and whlie they have dynamism in the attack with players like Savio and Mohammed Kudus, Omar Marmoush is the one guy who can really bring goals. And his highest single season tally was 15 in that insane half season with Eintracht Frankfurt before a winter transfer to Manchester City.
While Dominic Solanke once had 19 goals in a season for Bournemouth - in the Premier League, no less - before moving to Tottenham Hotspur for 65 million pounds, Marmoush's 15 in 17 games for Eintracht extrapolates to more in a full season. And in any case, Marmoush is going to be the starting striker for Tottenham this season - not Solanke, unless the latter can really shock everyone.
So the pressure is clearly on Marmoush to be that goal scorer in chief, especially with his best supplemental option right now on the wings being Savinho with his career high of nine goals for Girona in the 2023/24 season.
Marmoush is the main for Tottenham, and whlie that is for better and not for worse, it is still big shoes to fill, especially since Spurs dream of getting back to the Champions League - a place they have not consistently been since they had literally the best striker on the planet, Sir Harry Kane, in their ranks.
