Tottenham Hotspur are going to need to be major players in the summer transfer window this year if they want to make some serious headway in the Premier League and support Roberto De Zerbi in the effort to get the Lilywhites back into Champions League football by virtue of a top five finish.

Spurs are coming off the worst season in their modern history, only avoiding relegation on Matchday 38. De Zerbi was able to get the most out of the veteran midfielders who were struggling under Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor before him, but it's still clear that Spurs do not have the personnel to play the progressive possession style De Zerbi wants in the middle of the park.

Tottenham need to try and make a splash for someone like Conference League Final standout Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace, but they also need a list of more achievable center midfield targets. A childhood fan of Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth's Alex Scott has been a popular player for fans and the media to circle as an easy signing.

Tottenham have been watching Bournemouth breakout star

However, it looks like Scott himself may soon be off the table for Spurs. Because according to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Bournemouth have already offered a new contract to the young center midfielder in the hopes of enticing him to stay. Star manager Andoni Iraola is leaving the club, potentially to Crystal Palace in the Premier League, but Marco Rose, his replacement, is also said to be high on Scott.

Just 22 years of age, Alex Scott is coming off a great breakout season for Bournemouth, who confirmed their place in European football in a historic campaign. Scott was a huge part of that success, and there is no doubt he would have waltzed in to the starting lineup for Tottenham in the middle of the park last season.

With Bournemouth headed for Europe and Tottenham coming off a 17th placed season in the Premier League, Scott literally has no reason to leave the Cherries for Spurs, unless if he really loves Spurs that much and is enticed by the prospect of being a key player in reviving the Lilywhites, which would be an honorable goal.

But despite the rhetoric and wistful thinking, there is no concrete indication that Scott and Tottenham are in for each other at this juncture. The most likely outcome is for the young midfielder to take this new deal that Bournemouth are giving him.
