Tottenham Hotspur have been interested in Savio for nearly 380 days, and they have finally secured the signing of the high priced Brazilian international from Big Six counterparts Manchester City, with the player pushing hard for his move to the Lilywhites this summer transfer window.
Savio will be an immediate starter on the left hand side and one of two major upgrades set to join Tottenham from Manchester City, with manager Roberto De Zerbi still pining for Liverpool star Cody Gakpo, whose future remains uncertain amidst the Reds dogged pursuit of PSG star Bradley Barcola.
De Zerbi is also plenty high on Savio, as is the entire organization, which even extends to the players, given how badly Xavi Simons was pushing for Spurs to finally seal the deal for the former La Liga Player of the Season candidate at Girona.

Speaking to the press about the move, Roberto De Zerbi stated, via Alasdair Gold of Football.London, In terms of one-to-one, he's one of the best players, can play on either side. If you analyse the best wingers in the world they score 10-15 goals a season and he has the qualities. Maybe it's a habit and he had to get the habit. We need to increase the chances to score. The best teams score lots of goals.”
Although Savio was not the biggest goal scoring threat for Girona before arriving to the Premier League, he did offer more of a threat in Spain than he did at Manchester City. And there is definitely room to work there, but it is telling that De Zerbi thinks Savio can bring the goals that Tottenham Hotspur desperately need from their attack right now, as evidenced by not scoring any against Brentford on Matchday 1 of the 2026/27 season.
But Savio is a two sided player who can start on the left or right and is devastasting one on one, and to hear De Zerbi praise him as an elite player in those dribbling duels with the versatility to play on either side is massive.
Because you would think that Mohammed Kudus has the right wing set up perfectly for himself to start as the left footer there, and he was Tottenham's best player last season immediately upon signing before his injury. So if De Zerbi wants Savio to score more goals, that could point to him eating into Kudus's playing time on the right so he can cut in and shoot with his left foot and challenging him, especially if he wants Cody Gakpo on the left wing with Mathys Tel. But with Gakpo unlikely and De Zerbi also seemingly high on Kudus, that's what makes this potential long term outlook of RDZ on Savio all the more interesting.
