Mikey Moore is being unfairly thrown under the bus again

After a strong 2025/26 season on loan at Rangers, Mikey Moore took the next step in his career by getting a loan deal to a top five European league, with Tottenham Hotspur sending the young winger and attacking midfielder to FC Koln in the Bundesliga for the 2025/26 season. With Said El Mala, perhaps a potential Spurs transfer target again, headlining the attack, Moore was expected to help the Billygoats level up with their desire to play exciting counterattacking football.

Instead, Koln have a bottom five attack in the Bundesliga and are buried in the bottom half of the league table. And there are scathing reports coming out of Germany stating that Koln are already not happy with the loan deal and are as far as bewildered over how poorly Moore is performing for them in the early going.

At the beginning of his loan move to Rangers, Moore actually had to deal with the same criticisms, but after a new coach was hired, Moore kicked it into high gear and was one of the team's best and most beloved players.

Mikey Moore is far from the problem at Koln

The other layer to this is that Moore is being unfairly targeted when there are other players in the FC Koln attack who have been much worse. Of all the players with more than two starts this season, Moore is actually the second highest rated in WhoScored. Said El Mala has scord two goals, but he's been horrendous so far and looks like one of the biggest flops of the 2026/27 Bundesliga season. And with Brighton courting him hard, it's fair to wonder if he even cares about playing for Koln anymore.

So it is unfair and bit bizarre that the Tottenham Hotspur loanee is in the firing line when the biggest star on the team is playing poorly. Veteran forward Marius Bulter has also been much worse this season, and Luca Waldschmidt has been so poor off the bench, it's fair to wonder if he belongs at the Bundesliga level at all. Linton Maina has started seven games, but he's also been woeful, nearly as poor as El Mala.

Mikey Moore, if anything, needs more time and more regular mintues in a set position in the lineup. Koln have been bouncing him around in different positions with different teammates. If the loan is going poorly, then the problem is on them for being a poorly managed team with a cast of underperforming or flat out dreadful players. Moore can bounce back under better circumstances like he did at Rangers when they hired a better coach, and if they are already this myopic, maybe Tottenham need to find a different loan partner.
