Tottenham Hotspur need to get serious about upgrading their attack this summer transfer window, and their biggest need is goals. Spurs need to sign a new striker and a new left winger who can actually move the meter, as they still have not replaced Harry Kane and did not even try to sign a left winger last summer transfer window to replace legendary captain Son Heung-min.
It won't be easy to land the kinds of talents who move the meter, and Spurs are going to have to beat out the best of the best in European football without, ahem, playing any European football of their own next season.
Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers is one of the transfer targets Tottenham fans are dreaming of the most, as the ultra efficient and versatile left winger has a great eye for goal and a great innate feel for the game.
Tottenham risk falling further behind
The problem is that Tottenham have made no head way towards signing Rogers, whereas it appears their greatest rivals, Premier League champions Arsenal, are about to make a strong pursuit for the Icy Cold forward this summer transfer window.
According to a report from John Cross of the Daily Mirror, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants to sign the intelligent forward for the Gunners this summer and has sent a formal request to his club's board to make a move for the well rounded 23 year old forward who quietly bagged 10 goals with 6 assists last Premier League season.
Tottenham Hotspur were interested in Morgan Rogers last summer transfer window but did not make a serious play for him. Meanwhile, Arsenal are coming off a devastating last gasp loss in penalties to budding French dynasty PSG in the Champions League Final, and Arteta's lack of attacking verve and quality on the left wing was further exposed by the Ligue 1 juggernaut.
If Rogers were to leave Aston Villa for Arsenal, the gap between the North London rivals in first and 17th in the Premier League would somehow widen even more, and Tottenham really cannot afford to let that happen without a fight.
Spurs already lost out on transfer targets both big, Eberechi Eze, and small, Christian Norgaard, to Arsenal last summer transfer window. Rogers would be an even bigger move for Arsenal than Eze, given the Gunners already had Martin Odegaard as a No. 10 but do not have an elite left winger.
