Luca Williams-Barnett just might be the most talked about player on Tottenham Hotspur this summer in the preseason matches, surprisingly stealing the spotlight from blockbuster midfield transfers Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes with his own displays in the middle of the park.
Just 17 years old, LWB looks like the next big star from the academy for the Lilywhites, and the Tottenham faithful could not be more excited to see what he can do this season, with LWB suddenly working himself into first team contention as a youth player.
Through three preseason friendlies thus far, LWB has joined Mathys Tel and Archie Gray as one of the three biggest standouts, and that's great company to be in, seeing as how Tel and Gray were two of the top young players - and the two best players when Spurs were at their worst - for Tottenham Hotspur last season.
Luca Williams-Barnett has made an impression
Tel himself is known for being fearless and always having the attitude of wanting to go out and get goals, and the 21 year old French left winger praised Williams-Barnett for having that same mentality, adding that the teenage midfielder has exactly what Spurs need in their squad.
The former Bayern Munich man told reports, via Spurs Insight, "This kid, I love his mentality, because even if he misses something he will go again. Even if he missed it twice, he would go again. This is what we need in the team, players who are trying things. So, I was very happy about his goal and for him. He's a player like us. We try to help him a lot on the pitch, off the pitch, in the training sessions. We try to help him about the confidence as well."
There is so much about this quote that Tottenham fans will love, particularly the "like us" line, because that shows the other players on Tottenham already see Luca Williams-Barnett as one of them. And the attitude of being a positive player who tries things is massive, because it falls more in line with hte mentality that Tottenham players want to have in 2026/27 under Roberto De Zebri, which is the opposite of what Thomas Frank was doing - and Frank frustrated the heck out of the players.
Williams-Barnett and Mathys Tel share something in common in terms of not being afraid to make mistakes and seeing the value in trying to win. LWB has a lot of assets in the building, and Tel looks like a guy who is 100 percent in the young man's corner.
